Supply contracts for imported blood products
We have contracts with suppliers to import blood products. This is one of several types of contracts we have in place to maintain blood product supply.

Reasons for importing blood products
Australia is committed to building its supply of domestically sourced blood products.
However, we import some products so all patients in Australia continue to have access to products when they need them.
We import products:
- we don't make in Australia
- where there's not enough domestic supply
- to make sure we have a back-up supply if needed.

Safety of imported supply
All blood and blood products supplied under the National Blood Agreement must meet strict guidelines for safety.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) sets the rules for all locally made and imported products. Read the TGA's guidance on therapeutic goods that contain or are produced from human blood or plasma(Opens in a new tab/window).
