Red cell diagnostic products (RCDP) are used for testing to:
- identify the blood group of human red blood cells
- detect red blood cell antibodies
- control, standardise and validate routine haematology tests.
RCDP are used in laboratory tests for blood typing and cross-matching. These tests make sure blood transfusion patients receive blood that matches their own.
Supply of RCDP
We negotiate and manage contracts for Australia's supply of blood and blood products and services. Learn more about suppliers and commercial supply contracts.
We have an arrangement with suppliers to provide RCDP to public pathology laboratories (approved recipients).
These current standing offer arrangements have been extended until 30 June 2025.
The Australian, state and territory governments jointly fund RCDP purchases made under the standing offer arrangement. There is an annual funding cap for each financial year. Once the funding cap is reached, public pathology laboratories must pay for RCDP directly from suppliers.
We administer the funding cap on behalf of the states and territories.
You can find out how we manage the supply and pricing of RCDP in our operating procedures.
Buying RCDP or reporting product issues
We have standing offer contracts with the following companies until 30 June 2025.
You can see available products and how much they cost from each supplier in the RCDP price list. You can contact the suppliers to place an order for RCDP or report an issue with a product.
